How It Works
Subfloor is the structural layer between joists and finished flooring. It is typically 3/4" plywood or OSB screwed and glued to floor joists.
The Formula
Sheets = CEIL(Room Area / 32 sq ft x 1.10)
Variables
- Sheet Size — Standard 4x8 ft sheet = 32 sq ft
- 10% overage — For cuts, waste, and stagger offsets
Example
16x12 room = 192 sq ft. 192/32 = 6 sheets + 10% waste = 7 sheets.
Tips
- Stagger sheet joints by at least 4 feet for structural integrity.
- Always use both construction adhesive and screws — never nails alone.
- Leave 1/8" gaps between sheets for expansion.
- AdvanTech is moisture-resistant — ideal for bathrooms and kitchens.
